Mulligan Stew Dec 2nd 2023-Donor Driven – Years best albums from 50 years ago – 1973 and Devin Cuddy & new album

The first Saturday in December is the start of The Wrapping  Season and also the Wrap-Up of the Year Season.

Whilst wrapping up the 2023 album list,  our donor for this week,  Michael Witt suggested taking a look back 50 years to the best albums of 1973 – 50 years back.

I’m thinking – any year that has a #1 hit from Tony Orlando and Dawn, should be passed on.

BUT after some deep diving, I’ve changed my mind on 73.

  • Stevie Wonder – Innervisions
  • The Who – Quadrophenia
  • David Bowie -Aladin Sane
  • Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band – The Wild, the Innocent and the E street shuffle
  • Paul McCartney – Band on the Run
  • Marvin Gaye – Let’s get It On
  • Pink Floyd – Dark Side of the Moon
  • Tom Waits – Closing Time
  • Lou Reed – Berlin
  • Jimmy Cliff – Harder They Come
  • Bob Marley and The Wailers – Burnin’
  • Led Zeppelin – Houses of the Holy
  • Elton John – Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

Of note – Marley wrote Burnin’ and Lootin’ in response to Jimmy Cliff’s Many Rivers to Cross.

“How many rivers do we have to cross before we can talk to The Boss”

Can’t get them all in but we’ll do our best.

 and that’s just hour one.

Hour Two – the special guest is Devin Cuddy and his fine new album Dear Jane.

A crazy mix of Country, New Orleans, great old-time music, roots and moments inspired by artists like  Randy Newman.

In two weeks The Guest is Matt Layzell From The Matinee – New Album Change of Scene
