Mulligan Stew October 12th 2019- The Secret Path with Kevin Hearn and Tom Wilson

Episode Notes

Thanksgiving weekend – 2019

This week we seek The Secret Path with Kevin Hearn and Tom Wilson

I was reminded several times this year that those of us upright and breathing have a lot to be thankful for.

We’ve all lost friends, family, mentors and loved ones.

As a believer in the healing power of music…I thought it was time to let the music heal and show the way.

We start with live tracks from

Joe Cocker

Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul

The Wood Brothers

New tracks from Bob Dylan, Joseph, Robbie Robertson, Play for change, Dead South and more.

Classic music from The Hip, Anne Lennox, Jeff Beck, Clapton and The King, Mark Knopfler &  Jimi Hendrix.

The last 30 minutes is a special feature on Secret Path Live.  A concert taking place next Sunday at Roy Thompson Hall in Toronto.

It’s a fundraiser for the Downie-Wenjack Fund.

Gord Downie we know.  Gord had heard about the story of Chanie Wenjack a 12-year-old young Ojibwa man who was taken from his home and sent to a Residential School.  Loneliness drove him to escape one night but it was into a dark Canadian Winter. The Winter claimed him beside a railway track that Chanie believed would take him home.

Along with his friend Kevin Drew from Broken Social Scene, Gord wrote the songs for Secret Path. The last music Gord would ever sing.

He knew his days were few but still Gord Downie felt compelled to leave us with these songs.

And so…Sunday, October 19^th Tom Wilson will join Buffy Ste Marie, Whitehorse, Sam Roberts Band, Tanya Tagac, Wm Prince,  July Talk, and Serena Ryder.

The Secret Path Band will be lead by Kevin Hearn from BNL.

Our guests Kevin Hearn and Tom Wilson will tell us how all this artistic intelligence keeps Gord Downie’s Secret Path Alive.
