Mulligan Stew Sept 21st- Donovan Woods and his latest album ‘Things Were Never Good if They’re Not Good Now’

Episode Notes

Two donors with lots of CKUA stories..

Donors in hour one have already sponsored Baba, Roy, Folk Routes, Holger and now The Stew.

His love of CKUA came when he first heard John Prine on the radio – it was CKUA.  It became his station.   We drop in some Arlo Guthrie and The Original Caste.

By the way, he calls himself a hunter, pecker-type guy with a computer. The note he sent was the longest he’d ever typed.  Sorry

Hour two donors are a couple. I asked how their Summer was. “Cycling in Croatia, Hiking in Cape Breton, a week in London  and a week walking through the Cotswolds”

They asked for 3 great artists Joni, Van and Mark Knopfler.  Cheers!

We’ll celebrate Leonard Cohen’s Birthday on Sept 21, 1934. Mixing his live tracks in London and Dublin with KD in Edmonton.

New music from Honeybear, Neil Young, Van Morrison, and The Fretless.

This week we welcome Donovan Woods and his latest album Things Were Never Good if They’re Not Good Now.

Wonderful insight into his songwriting and his place in the music business.

The first time he played in Victoria, he couldn’t believe the audience knew the words to his songs.

And in the past year, he played in Australia and remembers an audience in Perth who sang the words louder than he could.

He has come a very long way has Donovan.

Struggling to find things to sing about or sing at all.  A series of failures led to an addiction counselling program and committed himself to getting to “the bottom of myself“

He changed his mind about a lot of things.

” It turns out the truth does really set you free”

“I won’t be cheesy and say I  feel like this is my first album, but it certainly feels like a new start”
