Episode Notes
The Cowichan Valley Wine Festival returns Aug 1-31 – Yup, the whole month.
It features events, pours, music, food pairings and has a very rewarding Passport Event.
Because they’re in close proximity to one another, meeting the winemakers is very possible.
All those wine questions you had over the Winter and Spring, at last have a chance to be asked with the producers and experts at each winery.
Speaking of proximity, Cowichan’s unique location on Vancouver Island places vineyards near the ocean, and it’s amazing “maritime effect.” Warm dry growing seasons with mild Winters, provide the perfect climate for premium viticulture and winemaking.
Discover award-winning cool-climate Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris as well as Gamay, Marechal Foch, Riesling and the region’s legendary Ortega.
With new owners and winemakers, we’re now starting to see Cowichan blends, such as
as a white, featuring this year Albariño, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Siegerrebe, Gewürztraminer, Epicure, and Charme de l’Île sparkling wines.
It all proves that award-winning winemaking can thrive in different climates and environments.
Frankly, it’s starting to attract owners and winemakers from other parts of the world.
It all starts with a kickoff party on July 29, 6:30-8:30 at the Malahat Skywalk. General admission includes entry, winery tastings, summer bites and memorable views. www.cowichanwineries.com
