Biography
Silhouette is the highly anticipated new album from Catherine MacLellan. The record captures her best qualities effortlessly—stitching together elegantly woven songs with her memorable blend of heartfelt and powerfully introspective lyrics and catchy melodies.
Recorded largely at a secluded cabin in rural Prince Edward Island, MacLellan brought together a band of longtime friends and musical collaborators with producer David Baxter to craft the 14-track album that Canada’s Exclaim! Magazine has touted as being “a near-hour-long album devoid of filler…a testimony to MacLellan’s ascent to greatness.” Indeed, the subtle yet steadfast strength of the album is undoubtedly the understated power of MacLellan’s songwriting and performance on the largely acoustic-driven songs.
Her sweet tones weft gracefully throughout pensive and internalized lyrics that ponder, in the most elegant terms, the most relatable of internal dilemmas—balancing work and family, love blooming and fading away, and evaluating one’s own personal strength. Throughout the 14 tracks on Silhouette, it’s felt that you’re listening to the voice of an every-woman with a gift for expressing with poise the most personal of internal conflicts.
A particularly sweet note on Silhoutette hits on the penultimate track “Snowbird”, a stripped down cover version the most lauded song ever written by her father Gene MacLellan, featuring Canadian icon Jim Cuddy (of Blue Rodeo). It’s a meaningful acoustic tribute to the elder MacLellan’s songwriting legacy, and fan favourite re-imagined by Catherine in a whole new light.
MacLellan’s star has long been rising in North America. Voted Critics Favourite New Discovery by Penguin EggsMagazine in 2008, her last record Water In The Groundreached out to expand her already loyal fan base as she toured in support of legendary artists including Bruce Cockburn in the United States and Steve Forbert in the UK, while also holding her own by showcasing in Boston, Berlin, Cannes, Memphis, New York, London, and Paris.
Her previous albums have collectively hit #1 on the iTunes Canada Roots charts, and been acclaimed by tastemakers atMaverick MagazinefRootsThe Austin Chronicle, and Boston Globe.
Like the person in the room who demonstrates his or her commanding presence without announcing their arrival, Catherine MacLellan’s fine songwriting talent and accomplished performance draws her listeners in with little effort, and without need of any persuasion. Silhouette is a reminder that Catherine’s musicianship is unparalleled among performers of her generation.

SOUTH represents a fresh new creative step for Blackie and the Rodeo Kings, while embodying the qualities of rootsy musical uplift and quirky lyrical depth that have long distinguished the ensemble’s varied output.  The album’s largely acoustic yet reliably punchy arrangements showcase the three songwriters’ multiple strengths, while the musicians’ organically energetic performances maintain the vibrant chemistry that’s kept Blackie a consistently vital and distinctive musical force.

Dustin Bentall & The Smøkes Announces Canadian Tour Dates
You Are An Island Out Now

By the time Saturday rolls around Dustin Bentall will be taking part in his last show as part of The Grand Cariboo Opry.
They are in Bragg Creek Saturday night.

Then Dusty hooks up with his crack road band The Smokes for a mini tour of the West.

West coast songwriter Dustin Bentall and his band recently released You Are An Island, on Aporia Records. After a year spent mostly on the road, they are ready to hit the highway road one last time in 2013 including stops in Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Calgary and Edmonton. Listen to the whisky soaked, punk fuelled album track Shine, watch the video for the title track “You Are An Island” and view all tour dates below.
LISTEN TO “SHINE” HERE
WATCH THE “YOU ARE AN ISLAND” VIDEO HERE

If there is one thing that Dustin Bentall’s new album You Are An Island isn’t, it definitely isn’t just another Canadian alt-country album.  Recording again with good pal and producerRyan Dahle (Limblifter, Age of Electric), You Are An Island is technically a ‘sister’ album to 2012’s Orion, finishing the work that Dahle and Bentall started some time ago.  Joined in studio byRyan Guldemond (Mother Mother) and fiddler Kendel Carson (Belle Starr, Outlaw Social), Bentall refuses to be influenced by his rootsy past, opting instead for a blank slate and an open ear to suggestions from Dahle and the rock-fist fiddle of Carson.

Bentall and his road-hardened backing band, The Smøkes, have been touring relentlessly.  Slogging it out in scattershot club gigs on both sides of the Atlantic – not to mention prime opening slots for the likes of John Prine, JJ Cale, Mother Mother, Kathleen Edwards, Blue Rodeo, Matt Mays and Sam Roberts.  Still, there is no intention of easing off on his masochistic touring schedule.  “Some people are in bands and they tour and they fuckin’ hate it and they’re bitching about how they just wanna have a hotel room and go back there and hang out all the time. That’s not me though. Everywhere I go, it’s like going home in a way, even though it’s some other town.”

You Are An Island Track List:
1.       Every Chord That Rings
2.       Just Be My Friend
